Thinking About Natural Carpet Cleaning For My House
momreviews.net10 May 2012 | 8:24 amPhoto credit: ?ukasz Strachanowski I took the concept of spring cleaning to heart this year, announcing to my family that we were not only going to clean, but also declutter every room of the house, even if it takes us until next spring! With five people in a small house it doesn’t take long for stuff to accumulate, but we had gotten to the point where there was no room in the house that was always clean. When I was in middle school and high school, we had a living room in the front of our house that we were literally NOT ALLOWED TO USE, it was for company only. Now that I have… -
Verizon Droid RAZR by Motorola - great for on the go
Busy Mom Reviews23 Apr 2012 | 11:03 pmI'm a Verizon Wireless Ambassador, and I've been checking out the Droid RAZR by Motorola for the past few weeks, and I've learned so much about it. First, the call quality has been great. We live in a bit of a digital black hole and there are spots where we simply can't get reception, and the Droid RAZR has come through with a connection where some other phones just haven't. Secondly, the Droid RAZR has been great for me as I stay on the go a lot. I have several email addresses and since it's easy to add accounts, I can keep up with them while I'm out and about. I have a fairly new job where… -

Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health Clinical Line #CrestSponsored
30 Apr 2012 | 4:24 pmThree weeks ago, I wrote a review of the new Pro-Health Clinical Plaque Control line of products, which I received for review from Mom Central Consulting. I’ve always been a twice-day-day brusher, but I badly neglect flossing and hadn’t been much of a mouthwash user prior to the review. There’s something about having a whole line of products that all work together though, something the skincare industry has been doing forever. Just like you cleanse, treat trouble spots, and moisturize, with this Pro-Health Clinical line, you brush, floss, and rinse. Used together,… -
Could These Symptoms Be Menopause? In My Case, It’s Quite Possible.
26 Apr 2012 | 10:43 amIt was bound to start happening sometime, but it still surprised me when I was asked to review the website for Amberen, a supplement women can take when they start seeing the signs of menopause. Menopause occurs because the brain loses it’s sensitivity to signals for hormone production sent from the body. The ovaries aren’t getting those signals, so hormone production slows down, and that’s menopause. I’m 45, which means I’m likely in the beginning stages of hormone imbalance, called perimenopause. It could be anywhere from 10 to 15 years before my periods…

Giveaway: $100 Target card and Tropicana Pure Premium 100% Florida oranges
16 Apr 2012 | 8:06 pmI've often said over the years that we go through a lot of orange juice in our house because I have one kid who's 97% orange juice, so I'm delighted to be able to work with Tropicana. Tropicana orange juice is a great way to start the day or to have any time of the day. It's great on it's own, or in a smoothie or even in recipes. We already talked about how Tropicana is celebrating it's Pure Premium juice being made from 100% Florida oranges (be sure to look for it on the label), but did you also know: - Tropicana is the single largest buyer of Florida fruit, purchasing approximately 11.6… -
Cultivating extraordinary friendships with Cultivate Wines
15 Apr 2012 | 10:45 pmA couple of weeks ago, I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to a tasting for Cultivate Wines at Tavern along with some Nashville blogging friends. Cultivate is a wine maker that sources grapes from around the world to create premium wines at the best value possible. We sampled four different Cultivate wines along with some tasty, properly paired food for each one. We tried Double Blind (an Italian Pinot Grigio), Dream Walking (a California Chardonnay), The Feast (a California Red) and The Gambler (an Argentinian Malbec). Now I'll be the first to tell you that my wine knowledge is… -
Tropicana Pure Premium is made from 100% Florida oranges
4 Apr 2012 | 1:23 amWe drink a lot of orange juice in our family. As a matter of fact, I've often surmised that my youngest kid may actually be 97% orange juice. The boy. He is a consumer. So, it was a natural fit when I got the opportunity to work with Tropicana. Due to issues with orange supply because of hurricane damage, Tropicana has had to supplement their juice with oranges from other parts of the world. But, now? It's all 100% Florida oranges, and Tropicana is celebrating. I love how Tropicana has personal relationships with the Florida orange growers and their groves like Ed Pines from Lorida, FL. Be…

New Karl Quotables: He’s “Schwarzenegger of the Brain”
16 May 2012 | 12:14 pmPhoto: Getty Images The ever-quotable Karl Lagerfeld is at it again. While doing fittings for the Chanel Cruise 2013 show earlier this week, he chatted with a Telegraph reporter. The result? A new list of his current likes and dislikes—opinionated as ever. He likes English models Georgia May Jagger and Cara Delevingne: “Quick-minded little girls like this, they do not exist in France. Not any more. If they are funny then they are not French.” And the British Royals: “England would not be the same without the Royal Family. If there are scandals, who cares? The Queen is like… -

Carine Roitfeld To Stage Fashion Show in Cannes
16 May 2012 | 10:10 amPhoto: Getty Images The Cannes Film Festival opens today, and Carine Roitfeld is headed that way. The stylist, who usually pops up at amfAR’s annual Cinema Against AIDS gala during the festival, will be back at the event again this year—but this time in a different role. Roitfeld, who has co-chaired the event in the past, is spearheading a runway show during the gala on May 24, based on her idea of the perfect black wardrobe, WWD reports. Twenty designers have contributed dresses made specifically for the event, including Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Christian… -
Kate Moss, Photographer?
16 May 2012 | 9:09 amPhotos: Getty Images Kate Moss has dabbled in many things—singing, DJing, designing—but last night she tried out a new hobby: photography. While at a London fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care—she was there to auction off a painting by her friend Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones—Moss ran into her sometime collaborator, photographer David Bailey. She ended up borrowing his professional camera to take a few snaps of her own at the Claridge’s Hotel event—and looked to be having the time of her life. A new career path, perhaps?

Perfect Dress to Ring in the New Year
29 Dec 2011 | 1:18 amEach year, as most of us do this time of year, I go hunting for a new party dress to dance the night away and ring in the New Year in style. However, like for many, its been another tough year, money wise at least. However, it was a little worse for me last year when I kept it really simple with a tank and a pair of 7 For All Mankind skinnies accessorized with a piece of simple jewelry: see Fashion to Ring in the New Year. However this year I feel like something really chic. DKNY to the rescue! DKNY Strapless Dress with Ruffles (Front) DKNY Strapless Dress with Ruffles (Back) The dress I've…

15 May 2012 | 6:42 pmPeople love Nabisco Newtons Fruit Thins. Actually, I don’t know how accurate that statement is because I’m basing it on the 60+ positive comments attached to our news post about them last year. Those commenters sounded so excited about them that I’m surprised every single one of those comments weren’t all in caps and included excessive exclamation points!!!!!!! REVIEW: McDonald’s Strawberry & Créme Pie
14 May 2012 | 5:00 amI have been on a ravenous fast food habit lately. The discarded evidence of wrappers and greasy cardboard boxes are lodged between sofa cushions or in the backseat of my car. Similar to Dexter and his glass slides, my uneaten misdeeds are hidden amongst the bacon jams and jars of homemade mostardas in the fridge. Like corpses strewn about and disposed at night, I am secretly throwing out oily stained bags in my garbage can by moonlight for the garbage men to take away in the morning. However, the only victim here is me and, yes, my arteries are loving every suffocating moment. On my way home… -

There are more Choco Taco varieties, but I don’t think that area of ice cream treats has been expanded enough. I’d like to suggest creating a line of ice cream treats with Taco Bell called Choco Bell, which consists of a Choco Burrito, Marshmallow Bell Grande, and a Carmelo Enchirito. REVIEW: Nabisco Chewy Chips Ahoy! Gooey Caramel Cookies
11 May 2012 | 6:41 amThe Chewy Chips Ahoy! Gooey Caramel cookies are a lot smaller than the Chocofudge and Megafudge Chips Ahoy! Chewy Gooey Cookies we reviewed last year. What kind of size difference are we talking about? In cookie terms, they’re slightly wider than an Oreo. For those of you who’ve never had an Oreo, I’m going to put it into terms that might help you understand. If you saw someone with areolas the size of the Chewy Chips Ahoy! Gooey Caramel, you’d think they’re normal, unless they had three of them. But if another person had areolas the size of the other Chips Ahoy!

Making a House a Home
16 May 2012 | 12:27 pmPhoto by andreadespotAs I previously mentioned, 2012 is the year we make a new addition to our family. As if that weren’t enough transition, this year we’ve also decided to take the big leap to becoming homeowners. Doubling the amount of children in our home was a big part of that decision. We wanted more space, of course, but we also wanted all the amenities of the typical suburban home: a yard, a white picket fence, the ability to walk across the floor without hearing your neighbors’ kids screaming downstairs. These all seemed like the types of things that would be helpful to support… -

We live and work in the historic St. Elmo neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee. We get to wake up and start our work day, every day, with the mighty Lookout Mountain outside our windows. Handcrafted wood veneer sunglasses are our livelihood, as unlikely as that may be for a pastry chef and a skateboarder. Finding Meaning in the Lost and Found
15 May 2012 | 12:31 pmPhoto by Eden Frangipane Photos Many of us have lost an object that we value — a piece of jewelry, a childhood trinket or a favorite jacket. Against the odds, we hope that somehow our belongings will find their way back home. When Ikuo Yokoyama received a call that his Harley Davidson motorcycle was discovered washed up on the shores of Canada after being swept away during the Japanese tsunami, he was absolutely shocked. Yokoyama, who lost three family members during the tragedy, was contacted by the Harley Davidson company, who promised to restore the bike and return it to him. In his… -
How-Tuesday Round-Up: A Pop of Color
15 May 2012 | 9:34 amPhoto by EllenGiggenbachAs you might imagine, in all my time panning the internet for DIY gold suitable for the weekly How-Tuesday column, I’ve stumbled upon far more gems than there are Tuesdays in the year. So, for today’s post, I’m mixing it up a little, and sharing ten projects that I have been loving lately. Speaking of gems, here’s a pattern for stitching a diamond tote. Need a spot of green? Try making a clay planter for miniature houseplants. Fold a bouquet of sorbet-toned paper calla lilies. Dye plain old dollar store doilies to make some sunny decor. Revamp…

VBH Ballerina Pickstitched Python Clutch: Private Dancer
16 May 2012 | 11:00 amAsk V. Bruce Hoeksema if a bag can be at once devilishly sexy and alluringly sweet, and he’ll answer you with a confident yes. And then he would show you the Ballerina, VBH’s latest incarnation of the eternally seductive python clutch (now if only they could ship it to us Californians!). Think hourglass-inducing corsets and spine-tingling bondage. At least, that’s what lacing like this brings to mind. But then you consider the clutch’s name, and point-shoe connotation invites an innocent new context. Whether you have a dirty mind or you’re as pure as the driven snow, this shapely… -
Lanvin Partition Pochettes: You’re Under Arrest
16 May 2012 | 8:00 amGo right ahead and cuff me! Normally when I utter those words, I’m hoping to get my wrist buckled in with something along the lines of Hermès or Givenchy, but who needs a cuff bracelet when your seductive clutch comes complete with one of its own? I have been eagerly awaiting Lanvin’s Partition clutches to hit stores, and now here they are, right in time for my inevitable late-spring shopping bonanza. Sharp and edited, the rectangular lines of this confident pochette make the ideal complement to a curving wristlet. I’m rarely one to resist pale-pink python ($3,145), this one the shade… -
Olympia Le-Tan Pill Box Brozac Embroidered Twill Shoulder Bag: What the Doctor Ordered?
16 May 2012 | 5:00 amI guess popping a pillbox over your shoulder is better than popping pills all day, but is it really much chicer? Parisian designer Olympia Le Tan hit the big time by converting classic novels, like On the Road, Lolita, and The Catcher in the Rye, into kitsch clutches. Now she’s turned her attention from the bookshelf to the medicine cabinet. Brozac, anyone? It “helps your friends put up with you”! Indeed, her wordplays invite loads of conversational fodder. While the “Wiagra” variation (it literally says: “will give your man a massive hard-on,” which, even as a snob, I have to… -
Giveaway! “PARTON”- Rachel Zoe Collection:
15 May 2012 | 3:59 pmThe Parton sandal may have a lot of elements going on – snakeskin-texture, a variety of straps, a stacked-wood platform – but it’s as smooth as can be. So smooth, I can see this sandal going anywhere you want it to and blending right in. Think of the Parton as the laidback version of the Bonnie – a chunkier heel means more opportunity for wear, especially in the daytime. It also means a higher level of comfort. I love a heel you can actually wear without your soles aching after ten minutes, and even though this heel will give you nearly 6” of added height, the layered platform means… -
Stark Fierce Clutch: Stark Raving Chic
15 May 2012 | 8:00 amRarely is a bag so suited to its name. No, it doesn’t get any more “fierce” than a flashy power clutch topped with the head of a threateningly sleek panther. The cylindrical shape keeps the look from going to hardcore – it’s fierce, but not entirely unapproachable. This is not your average evening bag. The Stark line, which is founded upon ultra-sparkly, leopard-print boxes and sexed-up cuff straps, reeks of confidence. And I do love a clutch with some conviction. British designer Petra Stunt was inspired to make bags by her favorite artist, the edgy and controversial Tracey Emin…

15 May 2012 | 1:20 pmI've really grown to love those compact totes that are so common these days, but one thing I don't like is just how common some of them are. If you want a spare bag to tote around that still has the look of one that's not a spare at all, here's a few beautiful options. -
Hot Dog! Caspar Babypants is back
15 May 2012 | 11:00 amWhen Caspar Babypants burst onto the kindie music scene, I remember thinking it was cool that this Presidents of the United States of America lead singer had dipped his toe into the kindie pool with this little side project.

11 May 2012 | 1:52 pmJessica Kagan Cushman’s bird themed coin purse is an adorable option for holding actual coins or other small things. It might be small in size, but it is big on style with its colorful finch graphic and hidden cheetah print lining. -

Pride & Prejudice Special Edition
11 May 2012 | 10:50 amWe aren’t judging this classic by its cover, but we do love this swan decorated special edition of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth Bennet herself would be smitten with its bird motif and silky ribbon bookmark.

Giveaway: Midwest Dairy Council's Get Mooving Pack
25 Apr 2012 | 9:30 am(Editor's Note: Every time I post pictures of my kitchen on the Internet, I cringe a little. This is not the way it will look when I get all done with it. /insecurity) Almost a year ago already, I went to a dairy farm to check out some totally awesome cows with my girl and some friends on behalf of the Midwest Dairy Council. Recently, my friends the cows asked if the little angel and I would like to try out the MDC's Get Moooving Pack. It contained recipes, a Blender Bottle, a cute hat, cow socks, a cow pen, some samples of biPro whey protein, an iTunes gift card and a Cuisinart… -
Miro Notebooks
20 Apr 2012 | 10:40 amI got an awful lot of product pitches, most of which I delete. I used to write back, but writing back started taking more and more time, and as someone who pitches regularly, I get that if someone is interested, they will write back, period. However, as I love all paper and ink products with all my heart, when someone offers to send me a notebook AND tells me to stay awesome in the same pitch email, I'm sold. This isn't a review so much as a share. I received some of these Miro notebooks for free, and they are pretty cool. Some of them have actual stitched covers with thread and… -
The Essential Stay-at-Home Mom Manual
23 Mar 2012 | 2:52 pmShannon Hyland-Tassava is a long-time Surrender, Dorothy reader, and so of course I was eager to review her new book, The Essential Stay-at-Home Mom Manual, even though I was only a SAHM for three months on maternity leave. I admit to seeking a voyeuristic peek at what life is like for those not hitting the nine-to-five. Shannon's a clincial psychologist, writer and wellness coach. I don't think she ceases to be any of those things just because she's currently at home, and that experience informs this book -- it is not only a guide for structuring your days at home with wee… -
Trafficked
22 Feb 2012 | 9:21 amBefore I read Trafficked, a young adult novel by Kim Purcell, I knew pretty much zero about human trafficking in the United States. I met Kim through a woman I met at BlogHer Writers '11, and when I heard about the subject of her novel, I asked if I could have a copy to review. Trafficked is the story of Hannah from Maldova, who is called "Elena" by her Russian-American owners, whom she thinks are her employers. Lost yet? So is poor Hannah. She thinks she's in the U.S. legitimately to work as a nanny paid $400 a week to care for kids and do minimal housework. Her parents…

On a Silver Platter
16 May 2012 | 4:15 pmIt’s no secret that I have an obscene love of food. What most people don’t know however, is how much that love extends to the utensils and dishes with which food is prepared, served and enjoyed. I would wager, in fact, even my own family is in the dark as to how deep my fondness for all things food-service related runs. They know how I adore a fitted apron, a wooden spoon, a vintage mason jar collection, a well-set table at dinner time. When it comes down to... → Read the rest of this article -
Washington, DC, USA
15 May 2012 | 4:04 pmMegan Nolton, of Art Shark Designs, created this awesome print representing her hometown – but her shop also includes many prints representing other cities, including Philly, Venice, and Portland. Trained in graphic design, Megan also fancies printmaking and painting. Her “city love” prints are created using a Gocco printer and the red umbrellas are delicately added with watercolor. Hands down, this has got to be one of the most clever... → Read the rest of this article -
Sweet Dixie Designs
14 May 2012 | 3:48 pmJane of Sweet Dixie Designs began painting furniture as a creative outlet after graduating college 25 years ago. With a degree in Textile Design, painting furniture began as a fun outlet. She painted rocking chairs and stools to give friends as baby gifts and then it just grew into a business. Her experience ranges from painting large items such as armoires to smaller home accessories and she has sold them through craft shows and stores. Whip it!
13 May 2012 | 3:42 pmNecklace above is from Wing and Wendy Talk to me – who’s seen Whip It? It’s out on DVD now and I highly recommend it. I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Of course it inspired me to find a Roller Derby league to join. Though I gotta say while I’m into the racing around the rink – I am NOT into the bodychecking. So I’ll have to see if I can find a league that’s non-contact. More than... → Read the rest of this article -

Save The Date Cards with Wedding Paper Divas
15 May 2012 | 4:53 pmWith approximately 129 days to go until our wedding (but who’s counting? Oh, wait. Me.) we are in the midst of the most intense wedding planning that we will probably experience. Some of the things don’t seem that exciting to me – booking hotel rooms, booking a car to take us to and from the location, but some of the things, namely choosing our stationery, is something I’ve been looking forward to since pretty much the moment we got engaged (500 days ago exactly, in case you were wondering). I’ve been so fortunate to work with Tiny Prints since the very… -
Make Your Own Terrarium: A Fun Weekend Project With Kids
12 May 2012 | 12:24 amThe kids have been asking for a pet. Because we’re not ready to go the dog route, we told them we can adopt two of the giant garden snails that we’ve seen hanging around in the front yard. Don’t judge me. They love those snails and were so excited to adopt them that I almost felt guilty that it wasn’t a dog. Almost. Of course, any good adopted snail needs a comfortable place to rest his shell. So, I decided that we would build the snails a terrarium. The kids thought it was cool too – especially once they figured out how to pronounce terrarium. Say that one 5… -
Vidal Sassoon, Remembered
10 May 2012 | 12:03 amThe fashion world has lost an icon. Vidal Sassoon, the English-born hairstylist who revolutionized women’s hairstyles, passed away today at age 84 at his Los Angeles area home. He (thankfully) brought women the art of the ‘wash and wear’ hairstyle – freeing women of the ‘tyranny of the salon’. His geometric cuts were a departure of the overly done hairstyles of the late 40′s and early 50′s – and he introduced the hairstyle that many of us know fondly as the “bob”. “He changed the way everyone looked at hair. Before… -
Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift Idea: Harry & David
7 May 2012 | 10:38 pmCalling all procrastinators – you’ve officially got less than a week until Mother’s Day! This means you need to get your act together – pronto! This is the first Mother’s Day that I’ve spent really, really far away from my sweet mom and because of that I tried to make it as special as I possibly could. Not too long ago I was introduced to Harry & David by my fiance’ who sends his father and stepmother a basket from Harry & David every year for Christmas – they even ask for it by name. So, when I was looking for the perfect place to find… -

DIY: Artist’s Palette Cookie Party Favor
16 May 2012 | 12:00 pmSometimes life gets so busy that things like ordering treats for your kiddo’s birthday party can get pushed to the side until—uh oh, it’s too late! Sound familiar to you? This is pretty typical for me. Good news is, in situations like this, I am forced to improvise, which sometimes yields the best results. A few weeks ago, my business partner and I were preparing for her son’s art-themed birthday party. I will share the full party spread with you soon, but in the meantime, I had to share this quick and easy cookie tutorial for the next time you need a party treat in a… -

Skip Hop’s New Memory Foam Stroller Liners
15 May 2012 | 2:42 pmThe other month, I had the pleasure of viewing the latest and greatest coming from Skip Hop for spring. Well, spring has sprung (despite the dreary downpour I am experiencing here today), and my favorite new accessory is this innovative memory foam stroller liner. Not only is it a great way to provide added comfort for your child due to its water-resistant, memory foam cushion that conforms to their body, it can also help keep your stroller clean from the daily collection of crumbs. And in my opinion, every basic black stroller deserves a color makeover this season! -

A One-of-a-Kind Block Set
11 May 2012 | 10:39 amBlocks are pretty much a staple in every household with children. Building sets ranging from Legos and Duplo to the old-school (and, as some will argue, for engineers in the making) Erector sets, to basic wood blocks teach children to use their imagination. The Sportos™ Build-a-Sport blocks from Rosie Hippo owner Kimberly Bloom seek to engage kids’ minds and bodies by building designs of their favorite sports as well as those that will be seen in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Tips and Sips for Going Green
30 Apr 2012 | 6:16 amIt’s that time of year again when people like me who can’t even remember to feed their cat decide to plant an herb garden. Something about spring weather just makes us optimistic that we can remember to water the new plants and keep on top of controlling the numerous insects, animals, and other pests that will be munching up our tender greens before we even have a recipe picked out to showcase them. Tip #1: Buy Fresh. Unless you have a sunny spot in your yard, a sprinkler system on a timer, and the patience to either hand-pick bugs off your herbs or spray them down with organic… -

Skype vs. FaceTime: The Differences
15 May 2012 | 10:46 amDo you wonder what the differences between Skype and FaceTime are? Why should you use Skype over FaceTime? When I was approached about becoming a Skype ambassador, I thought to myself “why would I want to use Skype regularly instead of FaceTime?”. Just by asking myself that question, I realized that I had subconciously blocked all of my PC owning family and friends, from my video call list. Most of my family members own PC’s and do not own an iPhone or iPad. Let’s just say they live simple lives. Therefor, I can’t FaceTime with them. I… -

When I am logged in to Google/Gmail and I search for a particular phrase that I hope my site comes up for, my website’s pages may show higher in Google’s search engine results than if I am not logged in to Google.com. However, it is a pain to have to log out of Google/Gmail every time I want to check the real Google position of one of my pages. For example, if I am logged into my Gmail account and I open a new browser window and search… -

9 May 2012 | 1:45 pmBungeeAir™ Power Wireless Security Tether™ for iPhone Do you lose your iPhone or keys at least once a day like I do? I received a product from Kensignton called BungeeAir™ a few days ago and haven’t lost my iPhone since! In fact, I haven’t lost my keys either. 13 Apr 2012 | 9:11 amI love the song "The Three R's" by Jack Johnson from the Curious George CD. Of course, the three R's refer to reduce, reuse, and recycle. This is a great message to remember and song to sing as we come up on Earth Day in April. -

Jil Sander Is Selling A Beanie With A Veil For $440
16 May 2012 | 12:10 pmOne of the more popular editorial accessories of the moment is Jil Sander‘s so-called “veil beanie” for Spring 2012. That’s it, up there on models Daria Strokous and Hanne Gaby Odiele (the photo’s by Tommy Ton). British milliner Stephen Jones designed the piece, which the brand’s ecommerce store describes as a “lycra/polypropylene blend hat with lapel and contrast veil.” While the hat is nothing more than a beanie with a veil, Jil Sander sets the value at $440 and, frankly, they could set it a lot higher what with its runaway popularity… -
Thin Models Actually Don’t Make Most Women Buy Clothes
16 May 2012 | 9:50 amThere’s no one reason why fashion models are extremely thin. You’ll hear everything from clients, sample sizes, and agency demands to competition between models and the public that buys magazines featuring them. One of the more steadfast beliefs, though, is that models are thin because fashion is “aspirational” and women want to buy more than clothes: they want some abstract impossible thinness, youth, beauty, etc. As one researcher says, “It’s better to use extremely thin models because that’s what makes women feel bad about themselves and want to buy the… -

Redbook‘s Latest Cover Is A Photoshop Warzone
16 May 2012 | 8:30 amCan you identify these women? Clockwise from Jennifer Lopez‘s character in The Wedding Planner is a passable Cameron Diaz torso, a distractingly elongated Brooklyn Decker, a marionette of Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks as a smalltown weather girl with absurdly huge, eerily motionless hair. Great job! This is, of course, the humid wing of a wax museum meant to represent the cast of What To Expect When You’re Expecting. Remember when images of famous people had skin? Gallery: Michael Fassbender Continues To Play A Sex Addict In GQ Editorial
15 May 2012 | 6:02 pmMichael “Magnificent Penis” Fassbender is the dashing cover model of GQ‘s June issue, which promises to teach readers (with Fassbender’s help) how to “amp up your sex appeal.” (Wear nicer clothes, preferably the ones advertised in the magazine, is the basic jist of it.) But is the Fassbender we see in the cover editorial really a suave man worthy of emulation, or a Shame-type sex addict trapped in the darkest depths of desperation? Let’s take a look. Inspiration: Tunnel of Love
16 May 2012 | 8:00 amYou guys may have seen photos of this tunnel on tumblr or other various inspiration sites, but it’s too amazing to not share… Dubbed “The Tunnel of Love,” it is a railway track in the small town of Kleven in the Ukraine. The track, which is rarely used by trains, has been reclaimed by nature, with a thick canopy of trees growing around and overhead. What amazes me is the fact that it maintains its tunnel shape, despite the fact that few trains still use the tracks…it’s as if the trees have evolved to grow this way. Ukraine has never been very high on my list of places…

Oh Crap, I Need Some Shorts
16 May 2012 | 12:28 pmI have no idea where any of my shorts are. This happens every year, and I never learn: put your shorts somewhere you’ll remember them. It can’t be that hard, and yet somehow, every year… I’m hopping on a plane directed toward sunnier climates this morning, so my shorts adventure will have to take place inside a physical store, and not online. I like to get the “too many salespeople and why isn’t everything laid out the way it is on the internet” experience over with fairly quickly, so before I hit the big box stores closest to me, I’m… -

Oh Yeah? Well, Your Pants Are Louder Than Words!
11 May 2012 | 3:35 pmCarolina on Lookbook.nu So I have a penchant for pants that speak louder than words. Brightly colored, bedazzled, polka dot, plaid… Anything but tie-dye. (It died for a reason, people, let it go!) (…Okay, hold on, these are kind of cool.) I like most pants that you could wear with a plain, white, v-neck and a basic jacket and totally look & feel awesome in. My preferred cut is Skinny or Straight Leg, but what I love about loud pants is that they come in almost all shapes & sizes! Plus, for thrill-seekers (like me), there are numerous patterns and styles to challenge your… -
Birthday Takeovers & A Confession About Graphic T-Shirts
11 May 2012 | 1:39 pmYou have noticed (if you follow us on Facebook) that, and I quote… Today is my birthday, so I have an enormous iced caramel latte, a pair of slippers, and I’m doing WHATEVER I WANT on B&B today. So, in honor of my level-up in Maturity, I thought I should come clean about a certain “immaturity” that stays with me… graphic t-shirts: I still love them. I wear them. I wear them often. I actually have a personal policy – ahem, I do not wear shirts with words on them unless the font is really good, so when I speak of “graphic t-shirts” I mean…

Safer & Cheaper Bug Repellents: 4 Picks
16 May 2012 | 12:45 pmMany commercial sunscreens contain stuff you really don’t want to be spraying on your little ones’ skin, but for most of us, it’s either use bug repellent in the summer or while away the warmest months inside. There are lots of safer bug sprays, lotions and balms out there, and the list of options can be overwhelming. This post should make it a bit easier to find one that’s easy on the skin and the wallet. Safer and Cheaper Sunscreens for Babies and Kids: 9 Picks
15 May 2012 | 1:18 pmTo make this list, I compared the lowest hazard sunscreens for kids and babies (hazard ranking of 1) on EWG’s 2012 Safe Suncreen list with picks from SafeMama’s Safe Sunscreen 2011 cheat sheet. To find sunscreens practical for the busy, cost-conscious family, I then took into account product availability and price per ounce. The sunscreens that made the cut are under $5.50 per ounce and can easily be found online at major retailers. They’re still pricy, though, considering that the cost of traditional baby sunscreens runs under $3/oz. Here are a few tips to save even more:…

Well hello eyes, where have you been all my life?
8 May 2012 | 9:16 amI'm not one to wear a ton of make-up, I usually wear the essentials to get by. Partly because I really don't know how to apply it all that great but mostly because I hate the way it makes my skin feel... And then I was sent the Mixology Brown Eyes POP set! Just looking at it made me want to run to the mirror and try it out! Not only did I love how easy it was to apply but I was happy knowing it was all free of chemicals that would make my skin feel nasty. I'll admit, that my eyes looked some much different, I was a little worried I looked funny... Until my friend stopped by and… -
What a tease!
3 May 2012 | 6:17 pmI've never really been too good at the whole back combing thing. My head usually looks a little lopsided whenever I make the attempt!! But last week when I was at the salon, my hair dresser pulled out a bottle of Big Sexy Hair What A Tease & holy moly it worked awesome!... And it doesn't make you look like your going to prom or that you have a "bump it" on the back of your head lol It was just enough to give my hair volume it needs & it only took a few squirts! I love this stuff & it lasts all day! FYI, don't use it in the bang area, or you end up with 90's bangs... -

She’s a girl!
2 May 2012 | 5:39 pmI walked into a store and thought I would pick up a few bits and piece. I tried to do this with 3 kids in tow. Needless to say, I walked out without the bits I wanted but walked out with 4 pairs of Childrens Sunglasses (for 3 kids), 3 cowboy style hats (one which was pink), a couple of dresses and 2 cute tops (ok the tops for the boys were my idea) and some other trinkets. But you could see just what a girlie girl my daughter is. Doing up places
1 May 2012 | 5:06 pmMy siblings and I just inherted a couple of properties that are in a touristic area. Locally they would not fetch much but as a touristic resort they could fetch a pretty penny. This means I would need to do them up like hotels do. Not a hard task to do and one I will look forward to shopping for. However, first things first, they need some structural work to be done before any work can commence. -
Doing it all
30 Apr 2012 | 4:27 pmI am one of these people who is always trying to do it all. I multitask. I overlap things. I fit in more things in my day than is normally possible and work to ridiculously tight deadlines. What I could do with are mobile computer workstations so that I can watch TV and work at the same time, or cook and work at the same time. But meanwhile my laptop being stragetically placed around the house will just have to do. -
Double Baby Shower
29 Apr 2012 | 3:49 pmI have just had a double baby shower and was given the fun job of buying the Baby Gift Baskets. There is something wonderful about buying teeny tiny baby stuff. Yet the one thing I learnt is that mums-to-be always end up with so much baby stuff (and nothing for mummy!) So I was wondering do I buy lots of baby stuff, a voucher for baby stuff or something for the mummies. I decided on a baby basket because it was a baby shower and a pamper voucher for the mummies! 15 May 2012 | 1:07 pmKindle Daily Deal: Desperate Passage-- In late October 1846, the last wagon train of that year's westward migration stopped overnight before resuming its arduous climb over the Sierra Nevada Mountains, unaware that a fearsome storm was gathering force. Fashion Designer Danilo Gabrielli
7 May 2012 | 7:58 amFashion Designer, Danilo Gabrielli, has come a long way from his humble upbringing in a small town on the West Coast of Tuscany, and is now proudly making his mark on the American market. From there, it was obvious that his future was set, yet knowing full well that his family could not afford the tuition of a formal design school education in Rome, Danilo enlisted with the Italian Navy where he served… -

Always be powered up with these battery chargers
16 May 2012 | 1:15 pmPortable electronic devices and appliances are slowly becoming a necessity. The convenience that portable appliances offer is second to none. The only problem that they have would be the fact that they need to be charged quite often. Most portable electronic appliances use rechargeable batteries. The problem with most of them is that they take way too long to charge up to a 100%. This problem has been taken care of thanks to quick battery chargers. There are quite a few battery chargers which would charge up your electronic devices in half the time taken when using your standard chargers. -

Towel holders for your bathroom
16 May 2012 | 12:45 pmThere are various bathroom accessories that one might consider to make one’s bathroom luxurious and elegant. These could be big and bold pieces like vanity, or beautiful ones like mirror or a painting. Yet another category would perhaps include more functional items such as a utility sink. However there are other items that might appear small and simple, but need an equal amount of consideration since they contribute in giving that subtle touch of uplift and class to your bathroom. One such thing is towel holders for your bathroom. Whether you go for standing towel holders or towel… -
Comfortable lounging wear
16 May 2012 | 12:15 pmThere’s nothing like lounging around on weekends in your pajamas. But along with your outer garments, it is also vital that you make sensible picks for your under garments. If you are not comfy inside, there’s no way you would be relaxed. Also, the right fit matters when it comes to selecting your lounge wear too. Anything that is stylish might not be comfy enough. For me cotton works the best because it skin friendly and easy to maintain. Usually I end up lazing around in button up robes, which doubles as nightwear too. Though I am a cotton person, I don’t mind picking up ones in… -

The truth of the matter is that men have many, many options to choose from when it comes to footwear; the key is in expanding your options by diversifying your taste. In today’s blog we’re going to take a close look at a couple of shoe styles you likely haven’t taken under serious consideration, and the…

Mango Wood Salad Bowl With Bark
11 May 2012 | 2:53 pmThe beauty of woodcraft and function grow together in this one-of-a-kind bowl, fashioned from the trunk of a mango wood tree. The flowing organic shape, delicate grain, and the warm hues of its unaltered bark distinguish this dense, ecologically forested trunk-turned-bowl. After 15 to 30 years, mango trees naturally stop bearing fruit, but after it's harvested and hand-carved, this malleable wood takes on a new life as a stunning home accent. The rich, sweeping grain of this hollowed out trunk make it a natural spot for snacks like mixed nuts or decorative accents like painted pinecones or… -

Floris London - Luxury Perfumes for Men, Women & Home
15 May 2012 | 9:50 amThere is nothing worse than the smell of cheap perfume. So go luxe or go home, I say. And there's nothing more luxurious than Floris London Perfumes. They offer scents in various families - floral, citrus, oriental, woody, green and marine - so that no matter what you prefer to wear, they've got something that you'll swoon over. New Radiance Skincare Brings the Beauty Secrets of the Far East to the West
14 May 2012 | 7:58 amI am all for technology breakthroughs, but I am also a firm believer in old school techniques and traditions. So when it comes to skincare, it's nice when you find a blending of the two. One of my most recent discoveries is New Radiance Skincare. Using "centuries old elements used to maintain youth in India and Asia," such as green tea, ayurvedic medicine and aromatherapy with organic Thai jasmine and advanced Western developments such as a "patented nanotechnology targeted delivery system that improves dermal transport of core Vitamin components into deeper skin layers,"… -
Thought Dried Fruit Had to be Dry? Not Fruit Bliss - It's Fresh, Moist & Bursting with Flavour
11 May 2012 | 6:58 amI have never been a fan of dried fruit. The leathery texture always sent me packing for the real thing. Occasionally, I would give into a recipe that called for dried apricots and dates, thinking it would make the experience more authentic. My plate was always the one with them in a little pile. No matter how fresh they were, the rubbery texture always got in the way of any taste they might still have. That's why I'm thrilled to have found Fruit Bliss. It is the closest thing to eating fresh fruit while still being dried. I know that sounds contradictory, but because "every piece is… -

St. Tropez Bronzing Gel Gives You An Instant, Even Tan. Really.
9 May 2012 | 9:31 amLook, I was never a pro at applying self-tanners. I was always that girl with the weird orange-striped legs and then ghost white everywhere else. Sigh. It was a disaster. And while over the years, the creams and lotions have gotten better, I have still ended up all uneven. I thought at one time this was better than being pale, but get outside in the bright sun and it's simply embarrassing. But since finding St. Tropez, I have been able to achieve a beautiful even tan without having to subject myself to the sun's harmful rays. Back in 2009, I reveled at the miraculous results of their…

Retail Therapy For the Want-To-Be Artisan Baker
15 May 2012 | 10:46 am0wantthis1havethis I Prescribe: Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking For: The “Want-to-be” Bakers Prescriber’s Notes: Bread machines are great for those who lack in the baking department and produce fool-proof bread (most of the time). Those handy inventions will not however, satisfy cravings for delicious artisan-style breads, crusty baguettes and buttery pastries, which of course, is where this book comes in. Maurice Sendak and The Best Childhood Books Ever
9 May 2012 | 6:18 pmR.I.P. Maurice Sendak, the author of the wonderfully inspirational "Where The Wild Things Are", one of my favourite childhood books. Why was it so great? Perhaps it was the illustrations, widely challenged as being "too scary". Pish tosh. I thought they were amazing. I loved the way he embraced the forbidden and frightening and made it into something quite beautiful. Perhaps it was the way we as children could all relate to Max, the alienated kid with a longing for adventure, friendship and greatness. I also loved "In The Night Kitchen", which was met… -

They are supposed to make your herbs last for up to three weeks. You just transfer the herbs in to these storage devices which are filled at the bottom with water. Not so mellow yellow
15 May 2012 | 2:02 pmIt was certainly a star-studded affair when Brooklyn Decker hit the red carpet last night with co-stars Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks and Anna Kendrick for the premiere of “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Chief Stylist Annie Ladino dressed Brooklyn for the event, which capped her worldwide press tour promoting “Battleship” and “What to Expect”, both of which open Friday. Met Ball: A day in the life of our favorite stylist
9 May 2012 | 4:01 pmChief stylist Annie Ladino’s life was a blur this past Monday as she readied celebs like Brooklyn Decker for fashion’s biggest night: the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We followed Annie (or at least tried to!) as she flew back and forth across town and ran from pillar to post prepping Brooklyn for the red carpet event of the year. Annie actually started working with Brooklyn and designer Tory Burch months ago to collaborate on the perfect dress for the occasion. This included several in-person meetings about cut, fabric and color, among other details. That…

Clarins cleansing milk and toning lotion: gentle effective cleansing in travel friendly sizes
7 May 2012 | 11:50 amClarins, the French skincare company, has been around for some time now, and although I’ve strayed every now and then to newer, trendier skincare lines, I’ve always gone back to Clarins because their cleansers, toners and lotions have always done a great job and they have never given me an allergic reaction. Recently because of my recent extreme travel schedule (Chile, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Bhutan, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Korea, Germany, Austria, France) I have been looking for travel size (i.e. airport security friendly) versions of Clarins cleansing… -

Classic looks for early Spring 2012
15 Feb 2012 | 3:39 amA bit retro (French 1960s), feminine, practical (no vertiginous heels please) and classic, these pieces will take you from early spring, with its chill in the air, to late spring and afte the summer, even into fall and early winter. I chose these pieces because they’re timeless and flattering. The mid-heel buckled pumps are from Prada. They look much like the suede Celine pumps I bought in the late 1990s back when Michael Kors designed their collections. The ballet flats are made by Attilio Giusti Leombruni. I have worn these flats for three years. They are the most comfortable,… -
Astalift: Fuji Film’s weird foray into skincare
15 Feb 2012 | 2:53 amIn January 2012, Eastman Kodak, the photographic film company, filed for bankruptcy protection in the United States. One of its competitors, FujiFilm of Japan, has done better by expanding into lines of business that have nothing to do with photography. Instead Fuji has used the technologies it has developed in the film business for other purposes, one of which is skincare. That explains why it created Astalift, which is now one of the new popular skincare lines in Japan (and Asia). This is what Fuji says on the Astalift website: Skin ageing is caused by oxidation, a natural process which… -

Umagine Squishy Baff Bath Kit Review
11 May 2012 | 3:23 amEver wonder how a diaper can hold so much liquid? See our beautiful topless grills, LIVE!
8 May 2012 | 10:48 amI love my gas grill, but the configuration doesn’t make for easy conversation with my guests (OK, fine, guest). Think about it: I flip the top to land about even with my mouth, which maybe doesn’t matter as I — like many I suspect — locate my gas grillagainst something (a wall, a deck, a fence) anyway. How am I supposed to conversate? Who wants to gather round that? Now imagine a setup where the grill is more like a cooktop setup…just open, with no top to baffle your babble or keeps guests away (my personality handles that just fine, thank you!). OK, stop… -

HOW TO: clean grill and get it ready after winter
29 Mar 2012 | 3:31 pmIf you haven’t noticed, along with shorts and mosquitoes, grilling season got an early start this year. Follow these tune-up tips to make sure your gas grill or charcoal grill is BBQ ready. Clean the interior using a putty knife to scrape off burnt-on food particles inside your grill. This isn’t just aesthetic. Build-up prevents your grill from heating correctly. To clean your grates, Weber Grill suggests putting them in a dark-colored plastic bag with a cup of ammonia into the bag. After a day in the sun, residue should easily hose off (hat tip Shelterpop). If you have a grease… -

“The Ivy League”
9 May 2012 | 3:06 pmHello and happy day to everyone, I hope your afternoons are going swimmingly. Business pressures mandate brevity today, so we are going to offer another reading suggestion. Like so many topics we end up discussing, this one has been sitting on my desktop (literally) for many weeks. We’re talking about a book still fairly new to the marketplace, Ivy League, from upscale publisher Assouline. Assouline Publishing Here is Assouline’s description of the book: The Ivy League is so much more than a group of eight universities. Attending one of these prominent schools provides entrée… -
About That Tennis Shirt Logo
7 May 2012 | 3:26 pmHello-Hello, happy top of the new week to all of our treasured readers. We begin today with a look at a brand we haven’t chatted about much (if at all) in this space, one with a name and history many will recognize, Boast. We have been reading about the brand’s return for some time now; word that women’s pieces are now available makes us think the company’s rebirth merits a post. Launched in the 1970s, Boast was a standard on squash and tennis courts, seen on everyone from the Yale squash team to these notables. Wall Street Journal Above we show tennis great Roscoe… -

Baby deserves the Best Stroller and Car Seat...
6 Feb 2012 | 7:04 pmMy son is 9 years old and well beyond the age of needing a stroller but ever since we found out we were having our first baby I have really loved to follow the design efforts of strollers and other products designed around a child or parent's needs. I guess they are a mode of transportation (I love bikes, cars and planes)...offer tons of options ranging from overall design choices, use of materials and a whole host of configurations and accessories. Lots of customizing and personalization can go into buying a stroller. There are…

Beauty Reviews: Clear Shampoo & Conditioner
12 May 2012 | 7:22 pmI'm a little like Goldilocks when it comes to shampoos and conditioners. Some make my hair too flat, others leave my hair dry, and others leave it without any shine. May 24th Long Weekend – The Start to BBQ Season
11 May 2012 | 2:59 pmBy Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor Some men take their grilling pretty seriously. My husband Scott is definitely one of them. He would, if he could, barbecue everything. We have been loyal owners of both the charcoal and gas Weber barbecues for most of our married life. My husband faithfully cleans them, pampers them and loves accessorizing them. To Scott, grilling on a fine barbecue is like driving a fine car. It is not only about the performance but also about being aesthetically pleasing. Here are three that Scott has put on his wish list. DIY – Grow Your Own Vegetables with ALLOTINABOX
9 May 2012 | 2:48 pmBy Audrey van Petegem, Senior Editor This year I am challenging myself to grow a vegetable garden. I have tried in the past and failed miserably. Having a green thumb is obviously not an inherited trait. I have many fond childhood memories that are all about helping my father in our garden, going out to pick the lettuce for our evening salad, or simply pulling out carrots, beans and sugar peas to munch on. I want my children to have similar memories and to see firsthand how food is grown. My childhood memories are from living in a small town, in a house with lots of property. Here in this… -
God Save My Shoes. The Film.
8 May 2012 | 3:05 pmBy Anne-Marie Kovacs, Chief Wife Just like any other perfectly normal, healthy, emotionally well-balanced woman, I have a thing for shoes. Do NOT ask me how many pairs I have. That is completely irrelevant to this conversation. I know you understand. There are so many reasons to love shoes. They can elevate a seemingly blah outfit to one that begins new trends. They can make you feel like can conquer the world… Comfort? Pfffftt… No kingdom was ever conquered on the basis of comfort. Or walkability factors. But, most of all, I’m quite certain that women love shoes so much…

However, we had a few valid and appropriate reasons for this move including a better job with better pay and this amazing house we discovered and weaseled our way into. I do not feel that this will be our permanent home, but a place to figure it all out and catch up for the last few years of crippling depression, anxiety and general full-tilt…

Lomo Kino 35mm Movie Camera
15 May 2012 | 7:02 amWe’ve featured Lomography previously for their pursuit to bring back the art of analogue film. But they see no reason to stop at still images. With the Lomo Kino 35mm Movie Camera, Lomography lets you bring your pictures to life in a gloriously old school way. Simply load up any 35mm film roll, and 35 exposures gets you 144 frames of classic lo-fi motion. Use the hand crank to manually move the film, getting you about 3 to 5 frames per second. If you’re only used to taking movies on your smartphone, this is a brand new experience that takes you back to the early days of filmmaking. In… -
Retro Arcade Poncho
14 May 2012 | 6:27 amNo one likes the rain, except the singer from the band Garbage. But if you have to go out in the rain, you might as well have some fun with it. Put on a Retro Arcade Poncho and skitter around town like a classic video game ghost. The 8-bit graphics and pixel cut edges step up the generic poncho look, making you the most stylish and dry person at that outdoor concert or festival. And for extra fun, grab 3 friends and a giant yellow beach ball. Then run around the grocery store aisles to see who can find it first. Bonus points for grabbing the strawberries. Vase Skirt Tutorial
12 May 2012 | 4:37 amVase Skirt If you're an experimental upcycler like I am, you have more "upcycling fails" than you'd like to admit. But there is that rare occasion where what you think is a fail actually ends up to be pretty stinkin' awesome! Today's tutorial is not at all what I was going for and a complete accident, but I went with it- and I'm glad I did! Tools: Protective gloves (the yellow vinyl gloves are great but I am allergic, so used my heavy-duty gardening gloves) Tongs Stock pot Tall, thin glass vase Supplies: 45 rpm record (these are the small records) Fill your stock pot with water and heat until… -
The Hipycle Materials Series: Railroad Parts
9 May 2012 | 12:44 pmThousands of miles of railroads have been abandoned in the United States, much of it in the last 40 years. A large two engine train was crossing America. After they had gone some distance one of the engines broke down. “No problem!” the engineer thought, and carried on at half-power. Further on down the line, the other engine broke down, and the train came to a standstill. The engineer decided he should inform the passengers about why the train had stopped and made the following announcement. “Ladies and gentlemen, I have good news and some bad news. The bad news is that both engines… -
Big Vinyl Record Catchall Tutorial
7 May 2012 | 4:14 amBe the coolest cat on the block with this catchall! As I was getting my upcycle on and working with some records, I spied my metal recipe box in the corner on the counter. A mischievous glint in my eye, this is what I ended up with- a good sized catchall that is not only practical but looks pretty stinking cool if I say so myself! Tools: Protective gloves (the yellow vinyl gloves are great but I am allergic, so used my heavy-duty gardening gloves) Tongs Stock pot Metal recipe box or something else the has a rectangular shape to mold the record around Supplies: 33-1/3 rpm record (these are the… -
The Hipcycle Materials Series: Plastic
2 May 2012 | 4:26 amWhen you really stop and think about it, plastic is everywhere. In fact, if an item is man-made and you’re positive it isn’t made of metal, wood, paper, or glass, it’s very likely it’s made from plastic. A good chunk of these items are made from repurposed plastic, but plastic is still found in high volumes in landfills all over the world. In fact, plastics account for 10% of the waste stream in the United States. Although this is a large number, people seem to be getting better at recycling plastic bottles. In fact, the amount of plastic bottles recycled in the United States has… -
Vinyl Record Catchall Cup
30 Apr 2012 | 4:41 amGroovy spot for keys? It seems that everyone these days is making bowls from old vinyl records. While I could certainly have done this and provided a tutorial, there are already a bajillion available online, and we all know I am all about putting a new spin on upcycyling projects. With this in mind, I raided my cabinets for anything metal or glass I could find to use as a mold, and this is what I ended up with! Tools: Protective gloves (the yellow vinyl gloves are great but I am allergic, so used my heavy-duty gardening gloves) Tongs Very thin glass vase Stock pot Supplies: 45 rpm record…

Vincent Longo Double Swish Makeup Remover (Review)
15 May 2012 | 6:40 amFor the past year or so my makeup remover of choice has been Neutrogena’s Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. They’re affordable, work pretty well, and the convenient travel size packs are perfect for trips. However, despite my best efforts to remove every trace of mascara and eyeliner before bed, I can never seem to get it all. Sometime during the night, remnants of mascara/eyeliner seem to reappear in the form of smudges under my lower lash line. Not a big deal, but still a minor inconvenience. HauteLook featured a beauty sale several weeks back and I decided it would be a great… -
Mani Monday: CND Shellac Combos – Beau + Moonlight & Roses
14 May 2012 | 7:00 amI hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We attended an absolutely gorgeous wedding at the picturesque Darby House. The weather couldn’t have been better, the ceremony was beautiful, and to top it off, it all took place before a stunning lake backdrop. In preparation for the wedding, my of-late neglected nails were in desperate need of some love. It’s been a while since I’m experimented with Shellac combos. Since the manicure was for the wedding and I hadn’t yet settled on a dress to wear, I opted for a safe choice – a natural and demure pink. I’m pretty… -

Sephora Beauty Insider 500 Point Perk: Too Faced – The Naked Look Kit (Review + Photos)
8 May 2012 | 2:00 amIf this is your first time visiting Curls N Pearls, it wont take you long to see that I’m a beauty junkie, and Sephora is one of my favorite places to feed the habit. Part of the reason I’m so drawn to Sephora is the Beauty Insider Program, where you earn points per dollar spent. But as with any loyalty program, sometimes the perks lack, and sometimes they’re great. When I approached the checkout during a visit to Sephora this past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the 500-point perk was something I’d love to try: the Too Faced Naked Look Palette. Time to…

9 May 2012 | 9:13 amI’m online a lot whether it be researching my own blog posts, sharing the awesomeness of others or just be social with my friends or readers. I see tons of controversial posts, specifically ones that grab people’s attention with their catchy headlines. While on Twitter yesterday, I came across this headline, “McDonald’s To Shower Bloggers With Parties and Gifts for Positive Posts,” on the Huff Post Food site. My interest was piqued. After reading the article, I really didn’t understand all the controversy. It actually sounded like McDonald’s had… -
Rock Your Home Office With VTech
8 May 2012 | 1:29 pmWhen I saw this picture, I thought, “yikes,” what if we still had to do business with a phone like that. At the time, it wasn’t terrible, it was just the way it was. Each day I’m grateful for all the technological resources available to me. My location requires a land-line for my home office and I certainly don’t want to be stuck in one spot attached to that old thing. Having a telephone like that definitely does not rock. I like my phones like I like my clothes: sleek, stylish and for mutiple purposes. Hello VTech!! Having the right technology can make…

Money Saving Freezer Foods
23 Apr 2012 | 1:13 pmA lot of money can be saved by freezing foods. Freezing foods can not only prevent spoilage, but also provide you with lunch or dinner the next day. If you know how to prepare and store your food properly, you will save money in the long-run. Stretching your food budget is important especially during these rough economic times. There are many foods that can hold up in the freezer, but many that cannot withstand the cold temperatures. Usually if you put something in the freezer too quickly, crystals will form on the food and will have a hard time adjusting to the temperature. It is…
